Home Performance Contracting
From energy audits to full-service weatherization contracting, we offer a range of services to help you start making your home more comfortable, affordable, and environmentally friendly.
Good Energy Retrofit also offers our customers home remodels, including kitchen and bathroom remodeling as well as basement finishing and remodeling.
Home performance contracting includes looking at everything from insulation to windows, from the furnace in your basement to the air sealing in your attic, to solve everything from moisture problems to energy waste and beyond. A relatively new field grown out of an increased awareness of the need to address the poor performance of our existing homes, the goal of HP contracting is to fix them. We do so by maximizing energy efficiency and building durability, ensuring the healthiest possible indoor air quality, and evaluating the relationships between your home’s various components to ensure that they’re all functioning as they were designed to. The result is a home that is more durable, more comfortable, more energy efficient and better for the environment and future generations—exactly how a home should be.

Home Energy Audits:
Great Information for Existing Homes Chances are, you're spending much more on utility bills than you need to be. A home energy audit gives you the opportunity to fix that. Using the latest technology, including a blower door to assess air leakage and infrared thermography, a comprehensive home energy audit will point out leaks in your home's thermal envelope, deficiencies in insulation, and other opportunities to stop heat loss and reduce energy consumption, while improving the comfort and safety of your home. In addition to recommending fixes to reduce energy, we'll also evaluate carbon monoxide safety, mold and other air quality issues and improvements to temperature and comfort. Our comprehensive audit report will include a prioritized list of potential improvements, and an estimate of the savings our recommended work will likely lead to.
+ Air Sealing:
Air leakage in a home not only wastes energy, but can also bring unhealthy air into living spaces. Since air movement in a house flows from down to up, most homes get much of their fresh air from the basement or crawlspace. Prior to insulating, we air seal homes to create a balance between healthy indoor air quality, energy efficiency and comfort. Before and after Blower Door Tests provide diagnosis of a home's air leakage.
Good Energy Retrofit provides expert recommendations on the right form and amount of insulation for each component of your home. Our preferred materials for insulating are Eco-Batts and recycled cellulose. We also install high-density foam for ultimate insulating results and moisture control.
+ Heating Duct Sealing & Insulation:
HVAC ducts placed in attics, crawlspaces and unconditioned basements are often surprisingly leaky. Small gaps and large disconnects are common, and result in wasting energy and bringing dirty, unhealthy air into living spaces. Sealing ducts produces significant improvements in heat balance within living spaces, greatly increases comfort and improves the functioning and life of HVAC systems.
Replacing windows can have a big impact on the comfort and aesthetics of a home. It can reduce drafts, protect furnishings from fading and reduce window condensation. Since the energy savings to investment ratio of window replacements is lower than other efficiency upgrades, it is important to choose windows with the highest efficiency ratings and use proper installation techniques. We know what we are doing and we can guide you.
+ Indoor Air Quality:
We help a home “breathe” right. Many homes get a large percentage of their fresh air from their basement or crawlspace, which is not usually ideal. Air sealing, strategically placing ventilation, diagnosing carbon monoxide & mold risks, as well as calculating ideal air flow levels in a home can greatly improve the indoor air quality in a house.
+ Improving Home and Water Heating Systems:
If your furnace or hot water heater are more than 10 years old, we may recommend that you replace them with high-efficiency equipment. Installed correctly, this can provide cost savings of up to 20%
